Depending on the troop’s goals, programs can support work toward Scouting America merit badges involving First Aid, Emergency Preparedness, Crime Prevention, Fingerprinting, Safety, Traffic Safety, Cybersecurity, Law, Search and Rescue, Wilderness Survival, Public Health, Digital Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and related subjects.
Troops may choose formal American Heart Association certification, lower-cost non-certification CPR training, or customized workshops led by experienced safety instructors and a retired police lieutenant with 29 years of law-enforcement experience.
In addition, group discounts are available for private troop programs, multi-unit events, and larger Scouting organizations.
Training Can Support Merit Badge Requirements
Many East Coast Safety Consulting programs overlap with skills, demonstrations, discussions, and learning activities contained in current Scouting America merit badge requirements.
However, taking one of our courses does not automatically earn or complete a merit badge. Scouts should work with their unit and an approved Scouting America Merit Badge Counselor to determine which requirements have been completed and which additional requirements remain.
Because merit badge requirements may change, troops should always confirm the current requirements through Scouting America’s official Merit Badge Hub before scheduling a program.

Certification and Non-Certification Programs
Scouts who want formal certification can take an eligible American Heart Association course. Meanwhile, troops that primarily want hands-on CPR knowledge can select Family & Friends CPR, which is less expensive because it does not include a certification card.

Can Scouts earn the First Aid Merit Badge through your CPR class?
Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED provides substantial first aid and emergency-response instruction that can support First Aid Merit Badge work. However, the Scout must still complete all current badge requirements and have them verified by an approved Merit Badge Counselor.
Do you offer CPR certification for Scouts?
Eligible participants can take American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR AED or Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED for certification. Troops that do not need certification can choose lower-cost Family & Friends CPR.

Is East Coast Safety Consulting a Scouting America Merit Badge Counselor?
East Coast Safety Consulting is an independent training provider. Unless an individual instructor is separately registered and approved by Scouting America as a counselor for the applicable merit badge, the Scout should present completed training and work to an approved Merit Badge Counselor for evaluation and sign-off.
