Church Safety & Security Programs

Keep a welcoming environment. Give your team a plan.

Help staff and volunteers understand how to recognize concerns, communicate, and respond appropriately during worship services, children’s programs, and community activities. ECSC works with leadership to discuss practical improvements that fit the way your congregation operates.

Practical support for your organization

Plan around the way your congregation actually gathers.

Weekend services, weekday programs, and special events create different needs. We consider the people using your facility, the volunteers supporting them, and the procedures already in place so recommendations can support both hospitality and preparedness.

Possible project scope

What we can review together

We agree on the specific work before the project begins. Your proposal will identify which elements are included.

Facility and access review

Discuss entrances, visitor flow, exterior conditions, lighting, and access to areas used by children and staff.

Staff and volunteer roles

Clarify who receives concerns, contacts emergency services, communicates with leadership, and assists visitors.

Emergency procedures

Review evacuation, shelter arrangements, medical response, and communication with families.

Welcoming communication

Practice respectful boundaries and calm responses to difficult interactions.

Children’s program procedures

Review check-in, authorized pickup, supervision, and escalation of concerns as part of the agreed scope.

A practical example: For example: a congregation wants ushers to know whom to contact about concerning behavior, while children’s ministry volunteers need a consistent pickup procedure. One program can address both responsibilities without giving every volunteer the same job.

A defined deliverable

Know what to expect.

Your engagement will identify the documents, training, or discussion included. Depending on the scope, deliverables may include:

  • A review of agreed facilities and procedures.
  • A written list of observations and prioritized recommendations when an assessment is included.
  • Role-specific response guidance or an emergency planning document when included.
  • A leadership discussion or staff workshop tailored to the engagement.

Ways to work together

Choose the depth of support you need.

Leadership consultation

Discuss concerns, current procedures, and possible priorities.

Assessment & planning

Combine a facility review with selected written procedures.

Team preparedness program

Add staff and volunteer education and a discussion-based exercise.

Frequently asked questions

Can we include volunteers?

Yes. Sessions can be scoped around ushers, greeters, ministry staff, administrators, and other volunteers, with different expectations for each role.

Do you provide security guards?

This page describes advisory consulting and education. If your plan requires security personnel or other specialist services, those needs should be addressed separately with appropriate providers.

Can you help with medical readiness too?

We can discuss CPR, First Aid, AED, and related training alongside the safety project. Certification courses are booked under their own course requirements.
